So first I set about trying making rectangles that could be dragged down to manipulate the height of the bar. After allocating certain tones to each bar and having a play around with the mouseMoved function it worked but got boring pretty quickly.
Initially I had an idea that if you could manipulate the height of the bar it would be neat if the sounds were manipulated at the same time. So I put in three different tones allocated to each bar, starting with a higher octave then moving to a lower octave as the bar was extended.
The sketch produced an awful constant humming sound and was still a little boring to play with that I moved on.
After having a play around with the link below (in post titled 'Found') and Ben Jack's Soundlines 1 and Soundlines 2, I thought my interactive sketch would work better if there was a line (or something) that when it 'rolled' over the beginning of the rectangle it would play the tone, as opposed to just mouseMoved. I also used the mouseDragged function.
After playing around with this, I decided to play with the colour so it changed when the sound was played. I had a look at some different sketches on OpenProcessing and worked out how to have the colour of the bars change when the line rolled over them. I then decided that I wanted the colour that it changed to, to continue fading until the sound had stopped playing. I kept all of my sounds to one second but was unsure how to code this. I had a look through some different openProcessing sketches but could not work it out, until my kind flatmate saw me getting frustrated and talked me through it.
I finished with this sketch, that was then presented to Angela in the mid-semester break.
