Project Three - 200-300 word explanation
Data Types
A data type is an important step in creating a variable. Data types are used to declare what type of specific data the variable can hold. For example, in my short film I use four different primitive data types, these are: int, which holds numbers without decimal places; float, which holds numbers with decimal places, this also means float can hold whole numbers, for example if the number was 1, float would store it as 1.0; boolean, which holds true or false; and String, which holds sentences contained by quotes.
Once the data type has been declared, it needs to be named. Data names must only include alphanumeric characters and underscores, with no spaces. In my short film the characters (data types) are named as follows:
int Ivy
float Francine
boolean Barry
String Sadie
(Please note that they do not need alliteration, I have only done this for the purpose of the film.)
Once the data type has been declared and named, it is then possible to assign a value to it, or leave it empty until you know what you wish to assign to it. For example if we take String, the variable would be created as follows:
String Sadie = “Remember String Sadie can only hold words”;
The data stored in this variable is “Remember String Sadie can only hold words”.
Data types and variables go together to create what is essentially the computer’s memory. They are used to remember information, change that information and use that information.Monday, May 23, 2011
Project Three - Updated Script
Interview Three
STRING SADIE
SADIE is a very lively guy. He comes across as confident but it is obvious he is being overly talkative to hide his nerves.
DETECTIVE
STRING SADIE, (sing next bit) the cleaning lady. (Chuckles). Right then SADIE, the only straight answer I’ve had from any of your acquaintances is that that you left at 4:07. Now I know you were together. Please tell me what happened at 4:07?
STRING SADIE
You know, well, okay. Well we went to the hospital at first to see if anyone was there but we didn’t end up knowing anyone, which, you know, was good because the hospital is bad unless, you know, you work there, you know like you’re a doctor or a nurse or a something rather. Unless you like hate your job or something…
DETECTIVE
Okay okay. Wait what? So you went to the hospital?
STRING SADIE
That’s what I said! And don’t ask me why because I told you that too!
DETECTIVE
Right, And then what happened? Where did you go?
STRING SADIE
Well we left the hospital and decided to go for a walk.
DETECTIVE
Right, but what did you do that afternoon that led to the crime?! (Desperate plea)
STRING SADIE
Well if you would let me finish! I wanted to swim so we walked down to the beach and I swam. It was like really cold so I got out and had a beer and an ice cream and I thought I saw a dolphin but in retrospect I don’t think I did. Where was I? Oh! Yeah! This is great! This is the funniest bit. Well not the funniest but, well… what?
You know, okay! Argh, stop interrogating me! We did it okay! You know! Shit….

INTERVIEW TWO
BOOLEAN BARRY (BB)
BARRY is a sly fellow; he doesn’t give anything away too easily and is very vague.
DETECTIVE
Whoa partner. Alright so… Boolean Barry eh?
BOOLEAN BARRY
True.
DETECTIVE
Says here you’re 22 years of age?
BOOLEAN BARRY
True.
DETECTIVE
Brown hair, brown eyes, a bit dim…
BOOLEAN BARRY
True, true, FALSE.
DETECTIVE
Ha ha. Okay so FF and II said you left the spaceship at 4.07?
BOOLEAN BARRY
True.
DETECTIVE
Right, right. And what method of transportation did you use? We found a hover board, but then a couple of streets down we also found a Pegasus tied up.
BOOLEAN BARRY
…
DETECTIVE
What? I can’t hear you son. Was it the Pegasus?
BOOLEAN BARRY
False.
DETECTIVE
Oh. Well damn we’re stuck with a Pegasus now. I mean that could be a lot of fun. I wonder how much he’ll go for. Uhh getting sidetracked.
BOOLEAN BARRY
True.
DETECTIVE
Hey now. So who was with you at the time?
BOOLEAN BARRY
…
DETECTIVE
Right. Damn you and the other two don’t speak much.
BOOLEAN BARRY
True.
INTERVIEW THREE
STRING SADIE
SADIE is a very chatty lady. She comes across as confident but it is obvious she is being overly chatty to hide her nerves.
DETECTIVE
String Sadie, the cleaning lady. (Chuckles). Now String Sadie, can you please talk me through the evening?
STRING SADIE
You know. Well, ok, well we went to the hospital at first to see if anyone was there but we didn’t end up knowing anyone, which, you know, was good because the hospital is bad unless, you know, you work there, unless you, like, hate your job or something. Anyway! Then we decided to just go for a walk and eventually we got hungry so we, you know, wanted some food, so I was like, “can we get some food?” and they were like nodding their heads, so I was like, “Pizza!” so we went to the pizza place and, oh that’s what its called! Pizza Place like that. We went to the PizzaPlace together, you know, anyway. We got Pizzas, I had sauce on mine! So good! Yum. Anyway okay. So I wanted to swim and they were like, well, they said, you know. HA! So we went to the beach and I swam and it was like really cold then I had an ice-cream and a beer and I thought I saw a dolphin but in retrospect I don’t think I did… where was I? Oh! Yeah! This is great! This is the funniest bit. Well not the Funniest but, well… What?
You know, okay. Argh, stop interrogating me! We did it okay. You know. (Exhales and says Fuck.)

Time Management:
14-15 May: Over the next two days I will fill in a diary of my daily activities to see what activities are relevant to the term. Over these two days I will also acquire the video camera and tripod.
Week of 16th May: I will begin shooting and will aim to have a rough draft ready for editing by the end of the week.
Week of 23rd May: Editing process will begin with final clip ready by Friday 27th of May.
Cost Plan:
Actor: free
Video camera and other accessories, software: Already own
Various props: Found around home, borrow off friends, or search in second hand shops.
Idea Two:
Short film
Create a short film which portrays characters selecting answers from their ‘memory’ i.e. data types.
Have different people identified as Int, (float), String and Boolean and their answers are relative to what they are.
For instance asked a question then answer with yes if true, or no if false (Boolean).
Asked another question where a more informative answer is needed then there is a selection of nouns available for them to string together a sentence (string).
Asked another question where a number is required for an answer (int).
Pseudocode
int ivy 4;
float francine 4.07;
boolean barry true;
String sadie "Interrogation";
Time management plan:
Pick a medium for this to be executed ASAP and browse around for different materials. If filming, then filming will start next week.
Cost plan:
Depending on which medium is chosen will influence my cost plan. If I were to make a film then the materials would be free but some bribing may be needed to convince my flat mates to do the acting.
Idea Three:
Array: Assign many values to a single variable
An ordering system where an index is used to recall.
A painting done on separate canvas’ with separate drawings done on them to make an overall painting that works together.For example something like this:

Pseudocode
String[] things;
String = new String [5];
String[] things = {"Explaining", "an", "array", "with", "pseudocode"};
To access the first thing, 'Explaining', you would use things[0]; to access the third thing, 'array', you would use things[2]; and for the last thing, 'pseudocode', you would use things[4].
Time frame:
A lot of paintings done on a lot of canvas’. I would aim to have at least one canvas painted every two days (starting Monday so I can buy canvas’ etc) or so.
Ideally that would give me 7 canvas’.
Cost Plan:
I would need to purchase canvas’ or another medium to do the paintings on. I would also probably run out of existing paint that I own therefore this idea is looking a bit expensive.
